How do I access a SD card in an Android phone, via phone USB and Linux?

I've got a 256 GB card in my Nokia 5, which is set up to be used as phone storage, and not for portable use. However, I can't seem to be able to find any files on it. The directory in Android shows:

Internal shared storage /mnt/expand/...

Can the files on the SD card be accessed from my computer, and if so, how? If it cannot be accessed, how can I transfer files from the card to the computer, through the USB connection?

Only the internal storage appears. However, it seems after doing some more reading that it is not possible to access the card through a computer, unless it is set up as a removable card. if adoptable-storage is set up correctly, the external MicroSD card /mnt/expand/... is mounted to /storage/emulated therefore you will see it via MTP as Internal Storage, not as external. if files missing then either you forgot "Migrate Data" or you are rooted and placed files into /mnt/expand/... directly with any Rootexplorer (which messed up permissions) alecxs 2020-02-03 08:51:09Z, License: CC BY-SA 4.0

There was nothing in Internal Storage, unfortunately. Even doing a search for files known to be on the SD card after it was set up yielded no results, when done on the computer via USB.
